RezEdit is the utility and API you need to distribute large executables with embedded graphics, sound, and data in a small, compact format. It is an invaluable tool for application programmers who need a good API and supporting editor to manager their product resources. Automatic resource compression, quick folder packing, and a solid API give the application programmer more power to write professional applications quickly.

You get the complete system which includes RezEdit, RezPack, and the rpxtools library and C Header File for use in Visual Studio 6.0 or later.

What can you do with RezEdit?

Much like the popular ResEdit (Apple Computer) in name, RezEdit PC by Repix Inc. is a complete application resource environment which allows a developer to ship single file executables with compressed resources of any type.

RezEdit retail version comes with a tools import library and header file which allows customers to access the many resource manipulation functions, allow them to extract, compress, or load on-the-fly files embedded within the application itself, but which reside after extraction in the windows directory.

The core of the software programming interface is the rpxtoolslib.lib and RpxTools.h header file. This API allows an application developer to access the compressed resource data in their application, to add, modify, or delete it.

Resource files are represented by the .rpx extension in this package. It is a private resource file that cannot be extracted by ZIP, or Windows XP's integrated compressor. To compress a folder or file for use within any application, just DRAG-AND-DROP the folder or file onto the RezPack shortcut (see picture on right).

Shown below, double-clicking on any .rpx resource file automatically launches RezEdit. You can edit your resources if needed, or simply see the contents of your resource file.

When compressing a folder for internal decompressing on-the-fly, as part of a single executable, you select the RezPack option "Exclude File Path In Resource Name". This tells RezPack to not include the file path (as not shown below) in the resource name. The resource ID is always a 0-4 character code, or the file extension if RezPack is used.
